QUEENS & NASSAU COUNTY

A complete 2026 guide to free food assistance — addresses, hours, eligibility, and contact information for every major resource in our community.

Updated June 2026 · Queens, NY & Nassau County · 10 min read

At The Moving Genie, we move more than furniture — we move families. Every day our crew works across Queens, Nassau County, and the greater New York Metro area, and we see firsthand how important it is for neighbors to look out for each other. That's why we've put together this community resource guide: a comprehensive, up-to-date directory of food banks and food pantries serving the communities we call home.

Whether you're going through a difficult move, experiencing a temporary hardship, or just want to know what resources are available in your neighborhood — this guide is for you. Share it with a neighbor, a family member, or anyone who might need it.

⚡ Quick tip: Hours and requirements can change without notice. Always call ahead or check the organization's website before making a trip. Most pantries will never turn away someone in need — don't be afraid to ask for help.

General Eligibility & What to Bring

Most food pantries in Queens and Nassau County operate with open-door policies. Here's what's generally true across the network — though individual pantry requirements can vary:

📋 ID & Documentation

A photo ID or proof of address is helpful but not always required. Bring what you have — most pantries will not turn you away if you don't have documents.

💰 Income Verification

The majority of pantries do not require income verification. You do not need to prove you meet a poverty threshold to receive assistance.

🌍 Immigration Status

NYC and Nassau County pantries broadly serve all residents regardless of immigration status. No documentation of citizenship is required.

📅 Visit Frequency

Most pantries serve clients once per month, though some allow more frequent visits. Some require registration on your first visit.

Note: Hours and availability can change due to holidays, weather, or supply. Always call ahead before visiting, especially at smaller church-based pantries. If a pantry is closed when you arrive, call 311 or text your zip code to (631) 450-3775 for the next nearest option.
