Every move has at least one item that makes the client nervous — a piece of art, a mirror, a TV, a piece of family furniture that can't be replaced. Here's exactly what we do with those items, every time.
Step 1: Identify and flag during the walkthrough
Before any packing starts, we walk the home and flag anything fragile or high-value so it's handled with a specific plan, not packed alongside everything else.
Step 2: Artwork and mirrors get corner protectors and flat-packed
Corners are the most common failure point on framed items, so we use foam corner protectors on every piece, then wrap in packing paper or bubble wrap, then load flat-packed and secured — never flat under other weight, never leaned loose against a wall in the truck.
Step 3: Electronics get original boxes when available, or double-boxed
TVs and electronics travel best in their original packaging. When that's not available, we double-box with cushioning between the layers and always transport screens upright, never flat.
Step 4: Glassware and dishware get individually wrapped, boxed by weight
Every plate, glass, and dish gets individually wrapped in packing paper, boxed with dividers where possible, and boxes are kept smaller so they're not overloaded — a heavy box of dishes is more likely to be dropped or mishandled than a lighter one.
Step 5: High-value furniture gets furniture pads and shrink wrap
Antiques, upholstered pieces, and anything with a finish that scratches easily get furniture pads secured with shrink wrap or tape (never taped directly to the finish), which protects corners and surfaces through loading, transport, and unloading.
Step 6: Fragile items load last, secured upright, away from anything heavy
On the truck, fragile items are the last thing loaded and the first thing unloaded — positioned where they won't shift or take weight from anything else.
The one thing that makes the biggest difference
Time. Rushed packing is where damage happens. We build fragile-item handling into our time estimate from the start rather than treating it as an afterthought — which is part of why we ask about high-value or sentimental items during the very first conversation about your move. If you'd rather leave the whole job to us, our professional packing & unpacking service covers everything, and you can see how it all comes together in a day in the life of moving day.
